Сhess pieces size
Our samurai chess set makes reference to ancient Japanese military tradition. Creating the pieces of which it is comprised required the master craftsmen of Olmart House to study deeply the characteristics of Japanese military art, including its weapons and uniforms, paying close attention to each detail.
Our chess pieces are made of mammoth ivory and encrusted with gold, black and white diamonds, mother-of-pearl, and ebony. The black figures are darkened via processes of firing and toning.
It took Olmart House two years to realize our ambition of creating this 32-figure set, the height of whose constituent characters varies from ten to eighteen centimeters. The production of the set was preceded by a long and meticulous process in which hundreds of kilograms of first-grade untreated mammoth ivory were studied in minute detail in order to select the pieces that would allow us to achieve utmost color uniformity across the whole set of chess pieces.
The composition of the chessboard table upon which these unique pieces rest is created by our designers especially for this chess set. Its creation brings together various valuable tree species, as well as mammoth ivory, with authorial marquetry techniques.
Mammoth ivory is a unique material because of its value and properties. Tusks which have been lying for tens of thousands of years in permafrost, are extracted today in just a few regions of our planet. A very small percentage can be kept in a condition suitable for sculpture manufacturing. The Olmart House uses mammoth ivory of superior quality only.
Ebony is the black tree which grows in the humid tropical forests of Africa and Asia, and it belongs to the rarest and the most valuable wood species. Very hard and heavy, drowning in water, it requires special continuous processing, special drying conditions, before it becomes suitable for carving and making artworks.

In their artworks and jewelry, Olmart House uses only collection quality diamonds (color not lower than F, clarity not lower than VVS2).
Olmart House in its artworks uses black diamonds of the highest quality only and does not use irradiated stones.
Pearls are very fragile and delicate material, and, considering the unique process of its formation, perhaps the most unusual one, because the living creature – the mollusk – participates in the process of creating the pearl. Olmart House uses in its artworks natural sea pearls of the highest quality only.
Formed in the balmy waters of the southern hemisphere, the mother-of-pearl we select at Olmart House is exceptionally thick and dense.
