Wakizashi with Dragon is an artwork in which the master craftspeople of Olmart House have given new life to an antique Japanese sword, decorating it with a thematic composition. A 17th century wakizashi has been fitted a new hilt and scabbard, made of ebony whose filigree carving is inlaid with garnets, and graceful gold rings with black diamonds. The sword’s tsuba (its front guard), as well as the rear guard, feature dragons of silver, with great attention having been paid to the ancient Japanese canon. An ornately sculptural stand takes the form of a dragon of tinted pear wood, while the rock beneath it, along with the stand atop which the whole piece sits, is of ebony.
