”Perfection is but an accumulation of little achievements. Trifles make perfection, but perfection is no trifle”, said the great Michelangelo. Asked how he created his sculptures, he answered that he simply cut off all unnecessary stone.
It is in these footsteps that the master craftspeople of Olmart House follow, discerning some future character in an untreated piece of mammoth tusk, grasping from this prehistoric matter disposition and posture, before gently and meticulously, layer by layer, millimeter by millimeter, releasing him or her, deducting all that is unnecessary.
The specifics of the art of statuary and bone carving differ substantially from sculptural modeling, where the creator first forms a work in soft material and then has the opportunity to make repeated corrections.
In carving and reductive sculpture, by contrast, each movement of the sculptor’s instrument has an unerasable effect. One incorrect calculation, improper adherence to technique, or false move, can render a work null and void.
Our master craftspeople strive for perfection – and achieve it. The attainment of such vividness and refinement in the creation of these small masterpieces would be impossible without the subtlety of sense brought about by colossal experience.
The filigree handiwork of true craftspeople; themes drawn from Eastern mythology and religion or ideas inspired by the beauty and diversity of the world surrounding us; mammoth ivory, combined with precious metals and stones; valuable tree species and other noble materials: all these are brought together by Olmart House in the form of unique works of art.
As one of our customers, you will become the owner of a one-of-a-kind, unique masterpiece – and, taking into account the rarity of the materials, such as mammoth ivory, of which it is composed, you can be sure that you will have invested in a real treasure, the value of which is constantly growing.
